Originating from Finland, Jonathan Northtribe produces and plays an eclectic blend of Nu Disco and Indie Dance. Major influences for his music include Motown, Synthwave, and Deep House. Thematically his music draws inspiration from psychology, pop culture, space, and the 1960’s.

“Jonathan Northtribe is an artist and producer with a really special approach to his music. On one hand, he is able to create heartfelt songs with intriguing, intimate concepts. On the other hand, his sound is far from being gloomy, moody or dark. Jonathan’s sonic aesthetics could be described as a tasty blend of nu disco, indie and dance music, with a charming pop feel. His sultry melodies comes together with intricate beats, lush synthesizer hooks and stunning song arrangements with a lot of soul.”

The artist started his musical pursuits as early as 2005, when he picked up the guitar as a stereotypically Finnish metalhead and started writing his own heavy metal riffs. He played in bands before fully establishing his solo project in 2008 – Nykto was born. Nykto was the artist’s IRC nickname, stemming from Nyctophobia, the fear of darkness. It was a heavy-metal influenced industrial electro project that gradually eased into House music and to project title Nyktofobia upon his first public performance in 2012.

Nyktofobia’s performing career started in Groningen, the Netherlands in 2012, playing in venues and such as Kult, DJ-Friday, and Vera. Nyktofobia’s first EP ’The Colour of Her Hair’ was released in 2014, after which Nyktofobia has performed at KM Entertainment’s Sounds of Sunset in Helsinki and in Sweden at the Electrified Club at Sydskånska Nationen in Lund. In 2015-2016, Nyktofobia played mostly in select events in Leiden, The Netherlands, before returning to Finland. 2017 was a year of the alternative vapourware project Tinder Lay, building up to the inevitable merging and re-brand or both projects.

The re-brand Jonathan Northtribe was established in 2018 to acquire a unique name that would not be confused with a dozen German heavy metal bands. Jonathan Northtribe immediately secured first appearances in events organised by the Helsinki-based MYÖS collective, Kallio Block Party, and Plan Dei Castaldi in Italy.

Jonathan Northtribe releases albums and singles, produces music for software, commercial use, film, games, and art experiences.
